One of the businesses that existed was El Rancho Liquor.  It was next to the El Rancho Hotel, on Pacific Coast Highway and near Torrance Airport.

The proprietor, Mr. Jacobs used to live near my family, and Mr. Jacobs' children were about the same age as my brothers and sisters and me.  My father made it a point to purchase liquor at El Rancho. 

That included one time when my father ordered many items for a party my parents were giving.  A customer commented to my father, "Oh Boy! It looks like you're going to have one great party!!".  Mr. Jacobs' then added, "Yes, it will be!!  And I'm invited!!".

That was in the early- to mid-1970s, before all the car dealers opened.
