Torrance Birthday Bash
Charles H Wilson Park
Sun, 10/28/2012 - 10:00am
The Torrance Centennial Committee invites you to join them in the Grand Finale of the Centennial Celebration that has been taking place for the past twelve months.
On Sunday, October 28th, we will be presenting a Birthday Bash to mark Torrance’s 100th birthday. The celebration will take place at Wilson Park, 2300 Crenshaw Blvd, (just North of Sepulveda Blvd) from 10:00 am to 5:00pm, and there will be something to entertain every member of your family.
For the youngsters there will be a children’s activity area, complete with jumpers, petting zoo, pony rides, and games. Many of the activities will be free, with a few charging a nominal fee. There will also be a Community Stage in this area with local talent performing for all attendees. The Live Steamers trains will be celebrating their own birthday, with free train rides available.
For the older folks there will be a Main stage located closest to Crenshaw Blvd. Several bands will be performing throughout the day, with a special appearance by American Idol semi-finalist Tim Urban, who placed 7th overall in that competition.
Nearby there will be softball competitions between Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs, and Police vs Fire Departments. Another area will be set up for Crafters to display, demonstrate and/or sell their goods. Some non-profits will also be demonstrating and educating nearby.
As the day draws to a close, there will be a release of 100 white doves to mark Torrance’s 100 years. The closing spectacular will feature the 21st Century Skydivers, a group of precision skydivers who will descend into the park.
Picnicking space is available at the far East end of the Park, and there will be an assortment of food trucks at the park throughout the day for those who prefer, along with a number of fast food restaurants within easy walking distance of the park.
Mark the date on your calendar now. Remember the excitement and camraderie of the Lights-Camera-Action event which marked the opening of the Centennial Year. Don’t be among those who will read about this fun community event on October 29th and wish that they had been there!
